...let there be light

11 July 2016 was the beginning of the marathon power cuts event trial we faced in our area - Pune, India. When it got cut, we were sure it would come in some time, as is its routine. So, there were no worries. My husband had to go to his office, being Monday. At night, I had to prepare our dinner in the light of a candle. When he came late at night from his office, he was surprised to watch our area in total darkness. I told him it was since morning as he left for his office. We laughingly enjoyed our candle-light dinner.
He had his week-offs the next two days. There was no power supply even for a minute. The day passed somehow, but as night arrived, we planned to order food from a nearby restaurant. But then we got a bigger surprise when none was ready to supply the food we ordered as there was no electricity since the day before.  At last we got the food from one. We thought the electricity would come the next day, and had our candle-light dinner the second night too.

On the third day, i.e. Wednesday, our patience was giving way to irritation. At night, my hubby insisted to go out and watch a movie to pacify our moods. We watched “The Secret Life of Pets” and loved it. It made me greedy to have our own pets.
On our way back, we wondered at the lights in shops. We asked guard at the gate of our apartment if electricity had come. We were surprised when he said Yes. Overwhelmed by his response, we hurried home and switched on all the lights. Thus ended our trial.
The next day, the newspaper had headlines of the 50-hrs long power-cut we all had to go through. With the article, it had a picture of our apartment. My husband exclaimed playfully saying, “Hey! We have become famous! This is our apartment’s photograph.” And we laughed.

The event showed us the importance of electricity in our lives. Thanks to Edison, who had brought lights in our worlds.
